Why Paulownia?
Paulownia is lightweight, strong, and naturally water-resistant—ideal for surfboard construction. One of the fastest-growing hardwoods on Earth, it regenerates from its own roots and absorbs up to 10 times more carbon than most trees. Used in boat building for centuries, Paulownia offers a sustainable, high-performance alternative to foam and fiberglass.
Light & Strong
Paulownia is one of the lightest hardwoods, delivering strength and flex without excess weight. It’s 24% lighter than cedar and 4.4 times stronger (bending strength) than balsa.
Naturally Water-Resistant
With a tight cellular structure, Paulownia repels water without chemical treatments. Its natural oils and tannins resist rot, fungal growth, and saltwater damage, making it highly durable in marine environments.
Rapid Regeneration
Unlike most hardwoods, Paulownia regrows from its own roots after harvesting. It reaches maturity in just 5 to 10 years, making it a low-impact, renewable resource.
High Carbon Sequestration
Paulownia trees absorb up to 48 kg (105 lbs) of CO₂ per tree per year—nearly 10 times more than most hardwoods. This makes it one of the most effective trees for carbon capture.
