Why Flax?

Flax fiber is a natural, plant-based alternative to fiberglass, offering shock absorption, vibration dampening, and torsional flex while reducing environmental impact. Paired with basalt, the duo creates a durable, performance-driven natural lamination.

Stronger, Smoother, More Responsive

Flax fiber enhances flex, shock absorption, and vibration dampening, creating a lively, controlled ride. It softens impacts, reduces board chatter, and improves torsional control for smoother transitions and better rail engagement.

Rapidly Renewable & Soil-Friendly

Flax is one of the most sustainable fibers available. It matures in about 100 days, often requiring zero irrigation in regions with sufficient rainfall. Additionally, flax cultivation improves soil health by returning nutrients to the earth between crop cycles.

Lower Carbon Footprint

Flax fiber production is far less energy-intensive and has a substantially lower carbon footprint than fiberglass. Studies show that flax fibers have a carbon footprint of 350 to 550 kg CO₂ per ton, while fiberglass ranges from 1,700 to 2,500 kg CO₂ per ton—meaning flax fiber production can reduce emissions by up to 86%. Plus, flax is biodegradable and free from microplastics, keeping both surfboards and the ocean cleaner.
